Hello after almost 20 years of a career as a professor who taught research methods, program evaluation, statistics, and qualitative data analysis to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in social work and other human service related majors and having a successful research and publication record I find myself unemployed and not wanting to go back to academia. Rather I'd rather use my analytical skills as a consultant to help human service type agencies with their data needs or work as an evaluator or research associate at some company. At 49 and really only having three jobs in my professional career what am I facing when I look for jobs? I feel overwhelmed when. I dig into the job sites, I am intimidated by the networking as I really don't have any contacts and I'm just plain scared that no one will want to hire me and I will be unemployed for the rest of my days. So again can anyone tell me what I'm facing, suggest some steps to make this process less frightening.
