Not sure if this is the right place to post about this. If not, feel free to delete this. I'm lost and I just needed a bit of guidance right now.
For context, I'm currently working in a small international organisation. We also have a fair amount of publications on education that we used to sell in events that we run. We just had a new director sometime in June this year, and everything the previous director did are now being audited.
So, here's where the story starts. Last year, a bookstore in Pakistan wrote to us to buy these books, as requested by their client. Like I said, we do sell them, but never by mail. So I got a bit skeptical at first, afraid it was a scam, but the previous director instructed me to make a proforma invoice anyway, with details on how to bank in the money. But when they did wire transfer the money, I know they meant it, and again, as instructed, I sent the books via air shipping, get proof of the shipping, they received them and that's the end of it.
The problem now is...when the new boss came in, she demanded a written proof of the transaction between the bookstore, which I have, and the previous director, which I DON'T HAVE, since the director's table is just 15 feet away from me and she always verbally instructed me to do something without having to tediously send emails. The new ditector didn't want to use my reasoning that the money had been received in the organisation's bank account and not mine, and that I have documented proof that the books had arrived in Pakistan safely. I took not a single cent out of this trade. And since the previous director now is retired, the blame playing with money automatically went to me because I "did things as instructed without communicating with the previous director". To even get the bank account number, I still have to talk to the director as I have no way to know, much less have access to, those vital details, so I know this accusation is a bit on the bs side.
When this issue arose earlier today, I already am determined to get another job. I love what the organisation is doing and what potential it has, but things like this is quite a let down on that enthusiasm.
