So about 6 or 7 years ago when I was in college I went through a period where I was severely depressed, and I got fired from a part time campus job after 5 months for poor performance. I want to add that I really got myself back on track after this, and since then have had great feedback and performance reviews. I ended up going back to school for a different degree, and now I'm looking for my first "big girl" job after 5 years spent mostly in the bar/restaurant industry.
Most of the applications asked for all work experience over the past 10 years. For most of them I was honest and listed the 5 month job. For one of them, I left it off. Coincidentally, this one job also asked if I'd ever been dismissed from a job... and I know I should have been honest but, well, I put no. I was so scared to put "yes" and potentially miss out on an interview because of a situation 7 years ago that doesn't define who I am now.
To be honest, I didn't even think I had a shot at the position, but I just got a call from the recruiter yesterday to set up an interview. Is there a chance this could come back and bite me in the you-know-what if I get a job offer, like during the pre-employment background screening?
