Before I start, I wish the best to everyone in the job market right now. It is truly a tough place to be. I’ve been in the market for an extended period of time now and have received rejection after rejection and even the “second place” candidate several times.
Throughout the process I had one opportunity come to me early on in my search that I didn’t truly love, but it was acceptable as a backup since they weren’t planning to move forward for a few months. When I shared my pay requirements, they continued the process and ultimately ended up lowballing me. It’s a doable offer, but a considerable pay cut. I also felt underwhelmed throughout the interview process in regards to the job. In the moment, I chose to accept the offer as presented as all of the others I had lined up where I was in the final step at that time fell through and I’ve been out of work for months. If I got this offer a couple weeks in, I probably would have held out.
I didn’t stop interview processes from verbal offer until my official signature as I had others lined up earlier in the process and already scheduled. I continued to go through with them because in my opinion, nothing is official until in writing and it took a while. By the time I actually received the offer to sign, I went another step in all my current active jobs.
Fast forward to a week later, I now have confirmed multiple offers are coming, although not in my hands just yet.
The offers coming are better pay, nature of the role more desirable, long term more stable jobs, and also did a better job of courting me throughout the interview process.
The thought of pulling out of a job as soon as I started makes me feel ashamed, but I truly don’t feel engaged in the opportunity at this point.
After being a complete fail for months, I now have more and better offers than I could imagine.
Any advice on what to do? Am I crazy for feeling so distressed or guilty about burning bridges? Looking for perspective here
