Is a temp job a good first step?

I graduated in May and have been looking for a job ever since. I have my Bs in statistics and am really interested in data analytics and have a basic understanding of some coding as well. I have not had any success finding an entry level analyst position, but I was recently offered a temporary data entry position. I plan on taking the position just to do something and have some form of income for the coming months, but will it help at all better my chances of eventually landing an analyst position? Can I use it on my resume to show I have been doing at least something work related albeit minimal, or is it too simple of a job to include? Any advice helps, thanks!
