I'm a little over a month at my newest job, and the orientation has been a humbling experience. The training had a high learning curve, but I'd take copious notes, and I felt confident I was "over the hump". I was training on some new procedures the last few days, and when I was put alone, I made a big mistake that made my boss and coworkers stay late. What do I do?
There's several reports needed for processing each day as part of the procedures. There are two buttons next to each report, one files it, and the other moves it completely to somewhere you definitely don't want (it basically deletes it and must be redone). I must have mistakenly clicked the wrong button at some point, the report was moved, and as a result was not processed.
All errors and missing reports can only be found at the end of the day, in the master report. When I was working with my boss to turn it in, he noticed an entire report was missing. He had to keep some coworkers back to stay late and redo it, and while they kept me for some time, I was eventually sent home because they didn't have anything for me to help with. Everyone seemed upset, they seemed to be complaing about me, and I feel awful.
I will never mistake those buttons again, this has made me so upset. It definitely doesn't help my track record, I have made some mistakes in the past, and I dont know what to do. I thanked them for the help, but I already have a problem with over-apologizing, and I dont know how to make things right. I dont know if I'll get written up for this mistake or not, but I hope it doesn't cost me my job. What should I do?
