I've been a fast food worker for almost 7yrs now. I started with this store in a small town, left for another store under the same company, and then when things got tough for me; I had to come back to my small town.
My boss is honestly a great person, she will accommodate you if she can, but when it comes down to it, the business comes first, no natter whats going on. Sometimes(a lot) she can get abrasive if she feels like you're doing her wrong. The store is THE most important thing in the world, and anything else comes second to work- no matter if its kids, family, being sick, or anything else.
Im in a dilemma- she took me in when I needed it most and now it feels like I may have to leave in the worst time ever for the store. School just started, so half of our crew either left or vastly cut their availability. I work nights as a manager, which is already struggling to stay afloat. One of the other overnight managers is quitting to focus on his school, but he's still with us until October.
I have a job interview tomorrow at a factory- itll be a set schedule with no weekends, benefits, and guaranteed overtime whenever you want it. Those are all things I've never had in my time at my current job. I don't even qualify for benifits until November because while I've been with the company for 6.5 years, everytime you switch locations, everything is reset so my benifits didn't transfer when I came back. This sounds like an extremely good opportunity for me and I dont want to pass it up just because of my loyalty to this company. I also don't want to screw over the people I work with but it seems like I can't have it both ways.
Any advice for talking with my boss? I know she's not going to take the news well if I get this job, especially if im not able to give her more than a 2 week notice(im gonna try to give one as long as I can, but if the new job needs me to start, i can't do much about that) I'm just so anxious about talking to her
