I recently had an interview for a position at my undergrad college with someone I had worked with while I was there. The job was a perfect fit for me.
I was so excited to interview and I (maybe presumptuously) thought I had it in the bag.....but then I bombed the interview and didn’t even move past the phone call stage LOL.
Immediately after I thought about sending an “I’m sorry” email. I wanted to say something along the lines of “I am very passionate and excited about this role, but I let my nerves get the best of me and I don’t think I interviewed well today. I was wondering if we could interview again or if I could provide any supplemental information that would help in your decision”
I was really passionate about the position and I know the interviewer so I just felt like I couldn’t walk away not explaining myself and how I was nervous because I was so excited.
My friends advised against this and told me to just send a thank you email and move on.
I’m wondering what you all think? Normally I would just let it go and move on...but I’m torn in this situation because it was my “dream job” and I know the interviewer and would like to stay connected. Is it ever advisable to send an email like that or has anyone ever had success in that situation?
