Interviewing for DREAM JOB job in NY, I don’t want to move to NY.

I just had a first round interview with recruiter for my dream job with a Fortune 500 company. The job is based in NY, I live in Florida. They asked if I’m willing to relocate, and I said yes, but I’m 99% sure I won’t move my family to NY. I was going to ask if they are open to remote work, but I chickened out.

Is it wrong to hope that they will maybe be willing to be flexible if they really want me? I’m sure it’s a highly sought after position, but I feel like I’m doing myself a disservice if I don’t at least try.

My philosophy is to at least have the first meeting with the hiring manager (which would be next round) for them to get to know me first, before I ask.

Thoughts? Am I wasting everyone’s time? Any success stories of being hired for an office position and they make an exception for you?? I feel a bit guilty, but I can’t help but want the job so bad!!

TIA!
