Have an unpaid day off

Boss giving me unpaid days off just because it’s not busy in the office. Is that possible or legal at all? I am an international student who has OPT in a very small tech company and work as office assistant. Manager came up today saying to have an unpaid couple days off this week and then my boss will call me back later this week to let me know if I am going to work next week. When I am asking the reason she says that its currently not busy in the office and that’s what boss asked her to tell me. I’m lost, I do not have a huge range of experience since I have just graduated the college to apply manu other jobs. I am so stressed since I am alone in US and nobody supports me financially during pandemic.
