Hello, Im not sure if this sub is the correct place to discuss this, but it’s the best I’ve found.
To give a brief intro, I am a junior studying Marketing and International Business at a pretty prestigious uni in my state, the employment rate after graduation is 98%. I had strategically planned my college years to be able to get an internship next summer. I have had an internship in Summer 2019, and I participate in student groups.
I planned to study abroad in Japan last Spring 2020, but it got cancelled due to the pandemic. Japan’s semester start from April-July, so I knew I wouldn’t be able be able to get an internship for the summer. Turns out I missed out on both studying abroad and an internship.
I have planned to postpone my study abroad to next Spring which would be the last summer before I graduate. I know by doing this, I would not have any other internship opportunities before graduation. In my opinion I would never be able to go live in a country for months with no adult responsibilities ever again - study abroad is a once in a lifetime chance. There is also a chance to do an unpaid short term internship in Japan.
I’m not sure how I should go about this. I chose study abroad over an internship, but how will this affect me in the job searching process? I would like to get a full time offer during recruiting season next Fall.
Should I do an internship after graduation? Should I do the short term internship in Japan? Or not study abroad at all? Please give me any advice!
