Should I add a Cover Letter to a menial PT job?

I am a working Full Time paraprofessional. But when school begins, we are all Distance Learning. We have yet to know our actual on-line hours with the children. As it will not be a standard classroom hours 8am-230pm, I decided I needed a job to pay off bills, stave off boredom.

I am applying at a local thrift store. I think it will be appealing because, it will keep me busy and well, I love thrift stores and have always wanted to work in one. Due to the simplicity of the job description of cashier, sorting, pricing and re-shelving, is it pretentious to add a cover letter?
