I've been a hobbyist video editor for a long time. All applications to video editing job needed a portfolio. I didn't have an official portfolio (several reasons for that I listed in my previous ranting post on r/jobs). So instead, I'd attach another document saying I'd do their ideas/requests on the spot and send it back to them before I'm considered hired.
Completely unorthodox. Anyway. Long story short, one employer actually accepted my offer, showed me previous videos they made through google drive sharing, told me to make things similar to that. Gave me around 4 days to pump out as much stuff as I could, and I did.
They loved it so much they skipped the time for the interview that we planned and hired me on the spot appreciating my "unbelievable initiative". That was the first time this has ever happened to me and completely hilarious. Even unpaid internships didn't take me on my offer, so to get this part-time remote video editing job is actually hilarious.
Obviously, since then I've started building an official portfolio considering I got rejected or ghosted by 30+ employers. But holy smokes, finally one employer took my offer and they loved it. Amazing. Any thoughts, similar experiences? Love to hear them.
