Hello! I'm a recent grad who has had some struggles with trying to move and looking for some advice.
So I graduated back in December and have been looking for jobs mostly in the DC area. I am not currently located in DC, but am actually located in a major city in Florida. I've applied to a few jobs in my city, but mostly just DC.
99% of the jobs I hear back from are in DC and I end up interviewing with them and I honestly think they go well. The first couple I got declined from I didn't really think anything of it and just assumed maybe there were better candidates. The last few tho, I decided to ask for feedback because I want to improve and hopefully land a job out there.
Each one told me something along the lines of wanting a more immediate hire, which I'm assuming means they want a local. I should say the jobs didn't really need local knowledge to succeed, so I don't think that's a factor for me not getting hired.
Every interview they asked me how long it would take for me to move out and I always say I can be there 2 weeks from the date of the job offer. I feel like that is an adequate amount of time, especially as I do have a part time job at the moment. I even offered to maybe start training remote within the 2 weeks to get the process started.
I've been told it can be hard to get a job in a different city and to maybe use a relative's address or something. I do have a few friends that live in the area and I know they would allow me to use their address for this purpose. However, I don't really see how it makes a difference because I will always still say I can start 2 weeks from the date of the offer.
I'm really not sure what to do and I'd hate to keep getting turned down from jobs because I'm in FL, not DC. Even tho it's an annoying reason, I'm hoping that's the truth and not for some other reason they didn't tell me.
