Its going to take me 5 and a half years to complete my bachelors, how much will this affect my job prospects?
Hey guys, hopefully my flair is correct. I used that one since i figured it would be on my resume. Anyway, so when i first started college, i was going to a state university but ended up failing two of my classes my very first semester and was immediately kicked out of my program, engineering. I wasnt aware i was allowed to drop classes and honestly was just having a terrible first semester. I dont like to give excuses but i was barely getting any sleep, i was burnt out all the time, i had terrible room mates and hall mates who also seemed to love hanging out in my room and partying. But i also severely underestimated how hard engineering at a university would be and would often procrastinate.
I ended up becoming dangerously depressed because of this and the pressure of knowing my parents were paying my tuition. I spent the next three semesters taking any electives i had to take, trying to get back into the engineering program and maybe taking a class or two from different majors to find a new interest. I wasnt doing well in school and I would spend so much time trying to study but wasnt grasping things as well (which i believe was a result of my depression). I was in denial for a long time. Eventually i decided i needed to transfer out. So i did and eventually overcame my depression and anxiety through a lot of introspection.
But now its taken me so much longer to complete my degree and i have a record of needing to retake a few classes on my transcripts. How badly will this affect my job prospects?
