Good day,
I'm in my mid-twenties and live with Asperger's Syndrome. I went to a vocational (culinary) school and graduated with an Associate's a few years ago. However, I'm heavily disenchanted by the culture within most restaurants (well-below standard sanitation, highly unprofessional behavior, and wild apathy toward the ongoing pandemic) as well as having developed a distaste for the work itself and the variable hours compared to underwhelming pay (in my area of residence, that is).
I have multiple years of customer service experience having worked front-of-house for much of the last few years, and I want to find more respectable work as a customer-service representative in a company that exists in the 21st century. This could be as a salesperson or even a cashier.
It's not my primary focus- as I've been studying code, visual art, and music independently for a career as a creative. However, I want to find a job that I don't have to be miserable at while saving up.
I've learned in the last few years that it's better to be forward about my condition, as it allows for employers to better understand how I think and act. This doesn't however mean that I do so in any sort of unprofessional manner. I love customer service. I love conversing and selling so long as I'm given the correct guidance and fully understand the products within my section (as a menu or a catalog of sporting goods). I haven't been given that shot in a long time however.
In order to be forward about my Asperger's Syndrome, I've added a blurb explaining the above to the bottom of my resumé, but for some reason, I feel as if I'm being rejected because of it (the condition, not the blurb).
What do you folks think?
Regardless, stay safe and stay prosperous.
