how long does it generally take to hear back after applying?

I've been applying to minimum wage entry level jobs at places like restaurants and coffee houses since monday (handing out resumes every day except yesterday), I had 2 out of 18 places I've applied to tell me I should expect a call back in a couple of days but I'm unemployed for the first time in almost a decade and I'm not clear on the ins and outs of a job hunt
