Hello all and thank you in advance for any help or advice that is offered.

A little about myself:

I’m a 29 year old Director of Food and Beverage at an upscale country club in Northern Virginia. I’ve done every job in food and beverage industry from dishwashing to where I am now. I have a degree in Hospitality Management and a minor in Business. I receive great compensation (have a good chance of hitting 6 figures) but at the cost of my personal life being neglected. I currently oversee an outlet that exceeds $2.5M in revenue yearly. I am in control of every aspect: budgeting, staffing, ordering, training, inventory control, cost analysis, etc.

At the end of April I had a daughter and so far being a parent is amazing. As I’m sure you can imagine, being at work 10-12 hours a day and trying to help raise a child and maintain a home life is pretty tough.

I would like to transition into a field where I can use my current skill set and hopefully maintain a somewhat normal schedule. Week to week I never know when my days off will be, which makes it tough to plan even basic things like doctors appointments or car maintenance. I’m willing to go back to school if necessary. I’m certain I’ll take a pay cut initially, but if it prevents me from having a stroke before my daughter can drive, I’m all for it. I don’t want to be like my father and be too busy to go to my child’s sporting or school events. I’d also like to spend more time with my girlfriend and daughter on the weekends and holidays (something I haven’t had off since I was a teen).

I have an interest in computers (I originally went to college for computer science but wasn’t as driven in my younger years), finance (I day trade and options trade as a hobby with decent success), and general business. Any advice on how to transition would be greatly appreciated.

TLDR; feel trapped in current industry, would like suggestions on how to take my skills to another industry for better work/life balance.
