I work in the lab/R&D side of a hemp business and I really want to get a job in a "real" lab. I have a degree in chemistry with 5 years experience in degree related jobs.
It has become very clear that I need to move on from my current job but my search right now is an absolute desolate wasteland. I know covid is a major issue but all the job posts I see makes me believe that people are hiring. Unfortunately the job search was horrible both of my previous times but I had hoped that the addition of 5 years industry experience would at least get me a single interview. I was just declined an interview at all for a position with a company I had interviewed for in the past. That company actually offered me the job in 2016 but I declined since I had already accepted employment elsewhere.
This leads me to my issue today. I was speaking with a co-worker today and she had heard from a previous co worker of ours that getting a job in Hemp was career suicide since no one is willing to hire people who have worked with weed. Is that the case? Have I accidentally cornered myself in an industry? Have any of you gotten out of hemp and back into "normal" businesses? I don't feel like there should be any reason this should be a black mark on my resume but I don't have the same feelings that the more conservative do.
Tl;Dr Did I commit career suicide by getting a job in Hemp? How do I get out?
Edit: I'm in CO and staying in CO
