I am 21 years old and have been working health related jobs since I started working (more seriously). I was a personal trainer then got offered to start working at a local high school with disabled kids. Pay isn’t bad, around $20 an hour, and I enjoy what I do and who I work with but something doesn’t feel right. I know I can be making a lot more money, right now I provide for me and my girlfriend and we are saving to have kids/house down the road.
However I have always been intrigued by working with my hands. My dad is a private contractor and can do about everything under the sun from welding/electrical/plumbing/carpenter/etc. you name it he can do it. I’ve helped him renovate our house and some other jobs he has worked, but only under his wing and never really got to learn much. He always told me that it’s not what I want to do and I should go to school and do something better, so I did. Know I realize I want to do what he does, not only because of the extremely good pay, but it actually interests me and will be valuable skills for when I have my own house.
Basically I have done the research to join a trade but everywhere I look everything is so complicated. I am extremely hard working, and when I get into something that’s all i’m doing every hour of my day (researching, watching videos, etc.). I just can’t seem to find a good way into it.
TLDR - I am in SoCal (Orange County) looking for the best way into a trade of any sort. I’m extremely dedicated and willing to learn everything under someones wing to get where I need be.
