Did I seem presumptuous?
Background: I am applying for an internship in the US. I am currently finishing up my study abroad and will be returning back to the US after the suppose start date for the internship.
When I received an email asking for me to join in a call so they can explain the overview process of the internship, I mentioned that I am still abroad and I don’t want to waste his time if I am not able to join. He said it shouldn’t be an issue since everything is remote and to join anyways.
After the overview session, he mentioned that now the next steps were to send in a video explaining why we should get a second interview. After the interview, we would be notified if we got the internship. However, during the overview, I got a better understanding of the internship timeline and I realized that if I were to get the internship, I would have trouble with logistics of having to get fingerprint and background checks since I am still abroad. I sent him an email saying I might have an issue with this timeline and if I could do the interview process now and secure a spot for fall instead of summer.
Here’s where I think I messed up. I think I was too presumptuous for asking questions about logistics for the internship before I even received a second interview. I don’t want to seem overly arrogant in assuming I would get the internship. I was just genuinely excited and started to plan ahead. I am wondering if I should email him with a follow up apologizing for sounding to presumptuous and that I am just excited. The only issue is that the email for the video is due in the morning and I think it’s weird to send him back to back emails and then an email with my video. However, at the same time, I don’t want receive a reply from him saying basically “we will have to wait and see” alluding that I am overly confident and I’m not going to get it.
So if I’m ranting. I am very nervous and upset at myself. Basically I am asking if 1) I was being to presumptuous for asking these questions before I even got an interview 2) should I email and apologize for being overly confident and then send in my video tomorrow or 3) wait for his reply and then just apologize in the email with my video?
