Character & Scenario assessments - do people generally take advantage?

Typically I feel like based on the position I know how to answer questions in assessments based on the role. However, the follow questions I usually see on assessments and I’m stumped:

“People generally like to take advantage of others.” “People are out for themselves.” “People will tell lies to get ahead.”

or stuff along those lines. Personally, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and be on a trusting team, but also don’t want to seem gullible.

Isn’t middle of the road frowned upon? What “extreme” would you lean toward?
