Hi r/jobs,
I am 26 with a BS from a state school in chemistry and an MBA in data analytics from a mid ranked state school. I currently work in operations at a Wall Street bank, but at one of their satellite offices so not in the big city and not bringing in the big bucks per se (only $50k in a medium COL city).
I’ve always struggled with having specific goals and tend to be extremely adverse to making decisions that I can’t go back on. If you’re into horoscopes, I’m pretty much the quintessential Libra. I got my MBA because it was a generalist degree and the only thing I knew for sure is I didn’t want to go into chemistry/academia or med school. At this point I’m wondering if I should stick with my current industry, finance, despite me not being SUPER passionate about it, just because I am good at it, enjoy my day to day somewhat, and there’s a high earning potential down the line. I also have had aspirations of law school as well as a career in politics in some capacity, although it’s getting a little late in the game to make that dramatic of a shift imo.
Has anyone ever explored using career counseling services, or been able to find a career mentor? I feel like talking through my choices with a professional could really help me make the next step in my career. I have a lot of anxiety about making the wrong decision, and it would be helpful to hear from anyone else who has struggled with the same thing.
