i just graduated from a STEM phd program.
i was pretty salty the whole time about my low pay. the grant that paid for my work gave so much $ to the university and so little to me.. it honestly made me feel so low. it's not like i was doing some pie in the sky project either. id think damn i was my class of 400ish's salutatorian but look at me now, i cant find a place to live without giving away my cats and/or lying on the housing application. luckily i was always basically fine because of my side hustling and wonderful partner, but the saltiness would eat at me.
now im looking for a Real Jobtm and doing a side-hustle online making like $25/hr no benefits. i also feel salty about this. the start-up has paid me late, underpaid me, and changed the rules for how much i get paid. but i can't really do anything about it. i just always feel like such a chump and at odds with my employer. they asked me to add them to my linkedin in like 7 different emails from different people and didn't stop when i said no.
i can't wait to make a livable wage. i can't wait to feel like my passion is rewarded. i do get really into my work and enjoy being a good team member. in grad school and now, though, it feels like the harder the work(ed), the more of a sucker i am(was). maybe it's idealistic, but i can't wait to pour my heart into my work and the prospects of feeling like a valued member of the community in which i work.
