Relocating for a new job - what can I ask for?

I am possibly going to be offered a job working for the state in the state capital in a couple of weeks. I leave several hundred miles across the state currently, own a home, and have a family to relocate. I absolutely 100% want to take this job if I'm offered it, but due to how intensive relocation is, what can I ask them for in order to make the transition smoother for both myself and them?

As it stands right now, they have an office in my current city, so I thought maybe I could request to work from there until I can find a place in the capital and / or get my current home sold. I also have considered offering to commute (I would happily do so if needed). The facility I would work at also has dorms as it is a state training facility, so I thought maybe requesting to live there for a couple of weeks up to a month just until we can get things sorted. But honestly, I don't know if any of this is reasonable. I've never relocated for a job before, and when I ask for advice, I get responses like "you'll figure it out," or "don't stress about it." I'd like to have an idea of what I'm getting into, so I turn to you Reddit.
