Verbal Offer From Dream Job While Sitting On Another Job That Needs An Answer Soon

Hi all,

I'm about to graduate and am starting to look for my first real adult job. Both companies in question here are startups.

I just received a verbal offer from my ideal employer and the first place I applied to-- I'm super excited. I was told they need to push HR for an offer letter but due to COVID-19 it might take a while. They did mention they will send me an email to back up the verbal offer (they are aware of my second offer and will get this email out to me within 24 hours), but that the actual offer letter might take a few days. I've been corresponding directly with my future boss, rather than a recruiter/HR person.

I have another job offer that wants a yes or no by this Thursday. It's a customer service job in a similar industry but their Glassdoor reviews make me extremely hesitant (lots of yelling at employees, sexual harassment, etc.) to accept unless it is really my last possible option. They have explicitly told me they won't extend this deadline to respond. That being said, the job position starts in mid-May, so rescinding my acceptance would still give them ample time to find a new person.

What is my best course of action here without burning too many bridges? Do I bank on the email backup of the verbal offer since it is still a written offer of some sort? Do I accept the offer from the other company and rescind it when I get my preferred offer letter? Would love any advice.
