My girlfriend recently resigned from her job in NYC due to undiagnosed mental illness. We thought quitting would help, but she immediately suffered a mental breakdown that landed her in a psychiatric hospital. She is unable to work for the foreseeable future, but has large medical bills incoming.
Since she resigned and is unable to work, is she eligible for unemployment or short term disability insurance? Can she receive any other benefits?
