Now now before you give an answer like "Welcome to Corporate America" I want to know if any of you have truly had a job where they weren't always trying to get you to work more for the same pay? For example, in my last job, I accepted a position that payed only 68% of what I was worth on the job market. With this in mind, I went to work every day and delivered above average results. Average was .51 production rate and I delivered .55-.56 production. However, I wasn't going to bleed myself dry and give them 150% to 200% for that low of pay. One day they started asking that I perform much higher (.70-.80) as if I wasn't already giving above average results. Some might say to just ask for a raise. However, the thing is, I would rather they leave me alone and not make ridiculous demands. The job I had before that was extremely stressful. Although I was getting paid what I was worth, I was working 10 hour days, sometimes 11. I wanted a job where I could also work on other projects on the side (investments, real estate etc). I thought they would be cognizant of how low they are paying and wouldn't make any further demands. So my question is: Is there ANY job where they just let you punch in, do your job (meet expectations,) without them asking more? I would rather work at a place that provides me steady employment and doesn't suck my soul dry as opposed to a high paying job where that is the case. Am I just looking for something that doesn't actually exist? should I just resign to my fate and negotiate the highest pay possible? What are your thoughts?
