How to explain a gap in employment?

Hi, I've been unemployed for almost a year now because of issues related to immigration and this is how i'm going to explain that in a future job interview. Let me know what you think:

"I graduated in May last year and was offered a similar position at ABC but couldn't take it because the starting date was well past the deadline for reporting employment to the immigration. During this whole time, I have been applying for a green card, training for a marathon, which has been a long time personal goal, and reviewing my technical skills through online learning and networking."
