preface im typing this fast and through tears so sorry for the lack of punctuation and correct grammar lol the past few months have been very stressful as ive been trying to get a promotion at my job where im currently a server and was trying to be our employee training coordinator. especially since it was dragged out way longer thanks to covid. i was the only person considered from my store and only one other person applied outside of our store. i know i did great in my interview and i really stepped up and acted way more professional during this time. all my managers told me this and were impressed. today my gm told me that he gave the job to the other girl but wants me as his “lead shift leader”. went on about how hes very impressed with me and doesnt see this as a set back nor should i. i am of course very upset none the less. i tried very hard for this job and have always worked very hard for this company. the thing thats really getting to me is pay. as a server i avg about $20/hour, shift leader is $15/hour, and the job i wanted is about $18/ hour. so basically im wondering how i should approach this situation bc although i dont wanna turn down this job i dont wanna take a pay cut. would it be unprofessional to ask for more hourly as a shift leader and if not how would i go about that? also any advice on how to take this situation would be great i was stunned and caught off guard when my manager told me today he went with the other girl bc she scored a few points higher in the interview but i find that hard to believe when i know my manager doesnt care about that kind of stuff and knows me personally so i want to ask him why he went with her over me. i mean i was literally already trained for the position the girl that had the job before wanted me to get it along with all my managers and many coworkers i was lead to believe that i had the job by everyone including my gm:(
