Has anyone else noticed an uptick in wages for customer service jobs? Is it smart to take advantage of it or is there some catch here?
I'm seeing several in my area that are paying way more than back in early February when I started looking for a job after being laid off.
Most call center type jobs were paying $15-$17/hr with many paying $12. Now I'm seeing a significant number of jobs paying $19-$22 for this type of work. I've been wanting to get out of construction because of safety concerns and I have a lot of experience in customer service roles.
I'm worried that if I took one of these as soon as Covid is over they'd drop the pay. Plus the working conditions in call centers aren't very much fun. Micromanagement is a market standard in that industry. However, it's safer than climbing all over trusses and roofs.
I'm thinking that they're offering these kinds of wages because of the expanded unemployment insurance right now. People are getting pretty nice checks to sit at home. Plus a lot of people are probably afraid to be in any work environment due to Covid.
