my 1 yr contract is ending apr 30. i brought it up with my boss in march and he says we should wait for the government (i work in a pharmacy, i don't think government will ever close pharmacies). and he is usually very timely with contracts (1.5 months in advance)
i suspect that he doesn't want to talk about it because he promised me a raise coming may 1st and now he doesn't want to follow through anymore so he's just coming up with excuses left and right. since then, he has not brought it up again. the pharmacy is busier than usual so business is thriving but i wasn't gonna be waiting on standby for him to say something since he may very well be not renewing my contract and basically leave me hanging until the last day.
on my end, i have received other job offers so i don't have the intention of renewing the contract anymore.
my question is, is it my responsibility to bring up the contract again and tell him that i will no longer be working here coming may 1st or can i just leave after apr 30 and just say something like "contract is ending so this will be my last day". i am weary of giving him advanced notice because i am afraid that he will take advantage of me and tell me to do alot more work than usual ( he already has) before i leave. but i just want to know if i don't say anything until apr 30, is it still ok and professional?
another question is, if i just don't say anything either and continue to work past the contract end date (since my new job doesn't start until jun 16), does he legally have to pay me if i am working without a contract?
