Hey guys,
I was hired for an entry-level/associate corporate job on a contract-basis (not as a contractor) because the hiring managers were worried about my commitment due to an obvious one-year gap on my resume. (This was due to a health condition that kept me from working - However, since I'm a young guy in my mid-twenties it just looks bad to most people because I'm expected to be super-human or something)...You know what I mean, there's a lot of stigma around resume gaps and what not.
Anyways, after a few months of working almost all of my colleagues recognized me for my exceptional performance and I was given full-time. However, even now, it is clear that I am overqualified for the job I am doing and am always doing more than people my level and am delegated more responsibility without any increase in pay/title. My boss keeps forwarding me e-mails from people reaching out to him to let him know how great of a job I'm doing. I'm also teaching my teammates how to use several tools and applications that should be known to them to perform their basic function. I'm teaching people two levels about me how to do their jobs as well. It's an IT environment and I'm quite baffled how some people land these jobs while clearly lacking the qualifications...I know this post may come off as arrogant and condescending, but if you worked with some of the people I did you would know that what I am saying is fair.
I'm at the point where I feel overqualifed, unrewarded, yet highly recognized. How do I leverage this to get what I want? I'm just worried because I do like the people I work with and the office location is extremely convenient. My boss is an old-school dude, but very nice. I don't want to burn bridges by demanding more money/a better role, but I also don't want to keep being milked out for my exceptional output.
TLDR; I am highly recognized as the best employee at my entree/associate level job and get non-stop verbal/e-mail recognition. However, my boss/the company is not giving me any tangible rewards to prove they value me beyond what I'm doing. I don't want words. I want more money/a better role. How do I get this based on all the consistent feedback/praise I get?
Thanks!
