Leave full time job for contract?

I'm working at a university in IT making 60k with benefits (pension, medical, ect). I've been wanting to get into a different type of role and I've been offered a chance for said role but it's contract work. 7 months min. with possibly of extension for 70$ an hour. I'm currently making around 30$ an hour. Not sure if it makes sense to leave my current job for the other position. I feel I am no longer learning what I want to or doing the work I aspire to get into in my current role. Also want to add that the company is one of the biggest in the industry and the experience would look good on my resume.
