I am a college student in New York currently applying for internships for the summer. I am a relatively competitive applicant for many of the places to which I applied, and I have an interview for one of them in a few days.
I am really interested in this position, yet it is unpaid. I will likely be able to secure funding for everything I need through my university, but the internship itself does not pay me. Hours are apparently flexible.
However, there is another opportunity that runs throughout the month of July. Because it is contained to the month of July, I'd really like to take up both positions, especially because the second opportunity is for a cause that's really close to me personally and related directly to my major. I am fairly confident that I would be able to land this second opportunity. It's paid, but it only runs through July, which means I would not be able to do this alone as I am trying to stay here the entire summer.
My main issue is that the second opportunity falls in the middle of my first one, which means I'd spend a month at the first, a month at the second, and then a month at the first again. I do not know how to approach this with the first employer, who seems to be ready to offer me the job as they said they were "extremely impressed" by my application. There is the potential to do both during the month of July, but with reduced hours at the first (from 24/wk to 10/wk), and I feel like I am most inclined to do this.
Should I even bother bringing this up at the interview, especially if I don't know for sure if I will land the second position? Should I say there's a potential I will need to work reduced hours (2.5hr/day)? Any help would be great!
