As the title suggests, the CEO of my company has poor management skills (putting it lightly).
He is well known for singling employees out in meetings and yelling at them. I myself have been targeted recently because he has overextended the company and there was no way I could get the necessary documents done and quality checked to him in time without working 80 hour weeks. In the end, I sent him what I had and that just painted more of a target on my back. The stress ended up getting to me and I cried in the bathroom at work recently.
This is my first job post-masters degree so, while I consider myself skilled, it has been a big ask to have me head up entire data projects in my first couple of months with the company. I am working in a smaller company so this CEO is present in a lot of meetings, especially the ones for the project that I am involved with.
My manager is aware of this issue and is aware that I now do my best to avoid interacting with this guy. However, it doesn't seem like there is much that can be down since this guy doesn't really report to anyone as the CEO.
What can I do going forward to avoid future confrontation? Note that I am not about to work weekends all the time and sacrifice my nights to appease this guy. The "avoid problems with your bad boss by working more" school of thought doesn't appeal to me.
Also, I am planning on polishing up my CV and cover letter soon so I am definitely open to the "get a new job" solution.
