Let me put it this way. I work in a very intensive and stress environment, my team deals with a lot of a you may say 'stressful' situations. So when I started there, it turns out I was starting with another candidate. Our manager decided because of our starting dates, to pair us. In the beginning it was okay, the guy did very good job, I used numerous times to say that in front of our seniors, team leaders, managers, etc. But from quite some time, the same guy completely changed - he doesn't take responsibility for anything, he doesn't do nice job, he looks always the easy stuff and all the hard work usually was left for me and only me. Couple of months ago, when I clearly got pissed off everything my team lead saw me I was clearly angry and he pulled me aside and asked whats going on, I asked him - what do you think and he replied he knows whats going on. After this conversation he took the initiative in his own hands and proven to our manager that I was essentially right to be pissed off and angry because I do all the hard work while he was doing basically nothing. They spoke with him numerous times and expressed their concerns, put him an action plan with the idea to get better results otherwise his contract will have to be terminated due to bad performance results. As you may guess, this doesn't worked very well as the employee continued with this behavior and just decided to do the easy stuff while the rest of the team was struggling with the hard and more important stuff. Today I had a conversation with one of my team leaders and he told me they decided to terminate his contract because they aren't seen any improvement since they had the last talk with him. Initially I felt a bit of relief, because I knew maybe this is the right choice, but after couple of hours I started to feel guilty about the whole thing. And now I am sitting here and thinking if there is a way to prevent that or to speak with them tomorrow to extend his improvement period with couple of months and see how it will develop. I really feel like a sh--, maybe of my negative feedback, somebody can loose his job. Do I have to feel this way? Or... I don't know.
