So I had a job interview on Thursday and got a formal offer the next day. At first I was happy because I desperately need the money but I’ve been feeling like there’s something off with the workplace.
First of all, the company’s owner asked me inappropriate questions during the interview. They asked me how old I was and what was my ethnicity because I’m a visible minority.
Secondly, the owner’s demeanor was very arrogant and unprofessional. At one point he moved my potential contract with his foot that was on the coffee table. He also made some awkward jokes I felt compelled to chuckle at because I was uncomfortable.
Also, the biggest red flag for me is that they want someone to work in sales, marketing & admin all the while reporting to the boss and being his own assistant. There was also mention of frequent overtime.
Oh and the worst part of it all is that the job is minimum wage and I’m a university grad with some experience. If I was just an assistant the pay would make sense but with what they want me to do it doesn’t. But I’d be willing to overlook it because I need more experience and money.
I just can’t shake off this bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. Am I being unreasonable? Should I take the job and suck it up for the experience? I dunno what do you guys think?
I also got this job interview through a recruiter? Should I tell him how I feel or should I just say that I’ve thought it over and would like to decline the job if I do?
