Workplace as of late feels more like a playhouse and less like a department working together

Best flair that fits I guess.

My department has a total of seven people in it. Recently, we appointed the senior most guy our “team leader”. A position that he has verbally stated he doesn’t want and wouldn’t take seriously if given that responsibility. He is “nobody’s baby sitter. Either do your job or don’t. I’m not gonna waste my time to make sure you’re working”. And for the most part, he’s held true to that. Three of us get menial daily tasks, which primarily are on my shoulders, and he goes off and does whatever he has to do, and then gets to report later as to what was and wasn’t done.

Now there are four full timers underneath him. Only three of us get daily tasks because the fourth guy doesn’t really listen to him. Or anybody else. This guy somehow got this job, decided which parts were his responsibility and weren’t, and just does that. Ignore the other aspects of the position unless directed he absolutely HAS to do something, which he then proceeds to complain about all day long, to everybody, to the point of trying to start a fight about it. He will make every sideways comment possible to get under your skin, and then when you say something back, he plays the victim and you’re the bad guy because you’re “not a team player”.

Of the three of us, there is myself, a 29M, a 45M and a 21F. The 45M is honestly a solid worker, albeit a little dim. He’s not great with technology and he’s openly admitted to having never gone to high school. Which create a minor hiccup in that he does everything he can to avoid having to use the computer. He will gladly process all the parts, and then just pass off the computer and paperwork portion to anybody else in the vicinity. But he shows up, does his job well, helps everybody out when possible, solid worker.

The 21F has what the department has dubbed a “conveniently timed bladder”. As soon as it starts getting busy, or there’s work that she doesn’t want to do, she’s gotta go to the bathroom. Even tonight, a coworker made a comment to her about having to pee for ten minutes, every thirty minutes. Her response was “what do you care? I’m getting paid for it and the works getting done”. Yes, the work is getting done, by everybody else. And slower because you’re not with us ALSO WORKING. She’s always got an excuse to be on her phone, she takes a minimum of an hour lunch, she has to talk to every person possible when they walk by, it’s 100% milking a paycheck.

The two other people I work with are part timers from a technical high school, they’re 17 and 18, best friends for years and no joke, now stepbrothers. They’re both teenagers. The 18M is a better worker than the other, but he also runs his mouth ALOT. Disrespectful because it’s “funny” and thinks that nobody will do anything because he’s at work. But he gets away with it because nobody wants to “argue with a child”. The 17M is almost entirely incapable for working alone. Finds every reason to work WITH somebody (read as: talk to somebody while they work), and everything to him is a joke, so you cannot take anything he says seriously. They come in towards the end of the day, so they milk the clock because they’re part timers. If we finish work early, they don’t make that much money. If they screw around and milk it, they make more. And technically so does the rest of the team. Except most of the rest of the team have families they would like to see and not have to be at work an hour later than necessary.

To top it all off, management has changed how our department is supposed to be operating 3 or 4 times since thanksgiving. So that doesn’t help the situation. Basically, there’s three of the seven people who know the entirety of the job, and two willing to do it. Going to higher management just gets them to have a “team meeting” where they say words at us to “bring us together” and remind us to “see our team leader” with any problems.

It’s becoming a nightmare
