So I might be putting the cart a bit before the horse here, but, there is a good chance that tomorrow I will be getting a offer for a job that I am going to accept. Problem is, I have never really quit a job before just out of the blue. I have left jobs because I was moving, or school, or things like that, but I only moved from one company to another once, and I was 20 and it was subway to mcdonalds and no one cared.
But the job I have now, I actually do like and respect the people there, and I would consider it one of my first real adult jobs. And it is very likely that when I leave this place, this place will suffer a bit (I am the only one that works the morning shifts that does my job.)
I am of course going to give them two weeks notice, but, I know even if I as a person or an employee is not a loss, that losing the one person willing to work that shift will be. And, I am actually friends with most of the office and care they are getting screwed.
But I can not light myself on fire to keep them warm. The office has a lot of problems, and the new job will be 200+ more a month, full time, with benefits.
Another problem comes that my boss is not actually ever in my office. He shows up once in a while and half the time he says he is going to, he doesn't. We mainly talk over e-mail. I will text him if something is super urgent. So while normally I would do this face to face, I can't wait until he decides to show up to be able to talk to him about it. I am considering asking him to come in for a meeting, but, I am not sure if that is even worse, because I am basically being like "oh please take time out of your day and come to this office so I can quit".
So can anyone give me advice for how I actually quit a job? What I should say and things like that? And what do you think I should do about him being out of office? Should I ask him to come in, or just tell him over the phone. Both seem disrespectful in their own way. Please help.
