Most of my applications get to "Under Review" then silence. Would it be wise to follow up on these applications?

Hi guys,

I'm a recent graduate and I have had trouble finding work. I have noticed that many of my applications say "Under review" or "Review" but I generally never hear anything after that...

Does this mean I am actually being considered or is this just all computerized BS? Would it be wise to follow up on job applications? Everyone says it looks desperate or needy.......but I don't care, yes, I am in need of a job, yes.
