Feeling discouraged, trying to change careers

So I am currently working in the print industry, hard labor, long hours and I am looking to change careers into IT. I love computers and working with people, I have been teaching myself techniques and I used to work at the help desk in highschool and actually help get the program off the ground. I have been applying like crazy and had a phone interview on Wednesday (the 27th) they said that it was some of the best answers to questions that they have heard in years but their problem with me is I have no real world experience. They put the listing back on indeed so I have a feeling I didn't get the job, how can I make myself stand out???
