As of March I'll have been at my current job for 1 year, without getting into too much detail its been incredibly boring from the start. Boring to the point where I spend 90% of my day on here. I feel like most would think I'm crazy for wanting to leave such a low stress job but I really just can't stand the boredom and just not getting any sense of fulfillment out of it. Everything else is great besides the job itself - I'm 10 min from home, hour+ lunch hour to go home everyday, good manager, pays decent, awesome culture+people, WFH occasionally, lots of perks being located at the company's HQ (mainly discounted cafe and a free health clinic)
I'm scared to leave because IT jobs are hard to come by where I live. Previously I had been commuting 3+ hours a day to Chicago for almost 4 years.
I also feel bad when the time comes to break it to my manager, he's a good guy and really looks out for me as an employee. I've never had to really inform a manager directly about quitting before (Was in the Marines for 4 years out of high school, only 1 other job for 4 years after Marines and my manager was fired 6 months before I quit so didn't have a manager at the time of leaving)
I'm going to start looking again in March to see what opportunities are available close to home before expanding search to Chicago. At that point it'll at least be a full year within this role to add to my resume. Just thinking at that point it'll really be time to start putting my happiness with a job as a priority over the convenience of my current one. I guess that's really where I'm at right now, weighing convenience vs. happiness/mental health.
