So at the time of writing, I'm working as a customer care rep in a call centre (really more technical support, but that's the official title). I didn't mind it too much for the first year or two, but I'm now sitting at three and a half years there and I'm so drained and tired all the time. We've been told that we're going to be facing redundancy in January or February, so it's coming to an end, but I really need a new job lined up if I can get one.
Here's the thing, I'm finding absolutely nothing I'm qualified for since I dropped out of college halfway through an HND to care for my father when he had cancer. I can't go back and do more college. I don't have the money for that. I need to find something that will take me without qualifications exceeding SCQF 6 (a fairly basic level of education, let's be real).
Things that don't seem to need the qualifications also seem to be things I don't think I could handle any more. I don't think I can stick more time in a call centre for the sake of my own sanity. I can't do warehouse or lifting work since I'm badly asthmatic, and I've got RSI in my wrists which means I experience intermittent phases of weakness and/or pain to the point I can't even open a soda bottle. I have a provisional license but haven't learned to drive due to an inflexible job schedule and lack of funding, so I can't take driving jobs either.
I've been applying over and over for basic administrative jobs and for anything librarian related I see that doesn't have a higher qualification requirement, but I've had nothing back at all. Those are about the only things I can think of that I'd even remotely be able to do at this point. My interests don't translate well to work.
I guess I'm just really feeling disheartened and frustrated with the whole process at the moment. I wish there was a cheat sheet for getting yourself in the door.
