How to tell my boss I can't take it anymore

Hello reddit,

I have been in my current role for over 2 years. I used to like this job, but I haven't felt happy for months.

The issue is that upper management keep asking more and more of us. My workload has increased by at least 30-40% since starting. My senior, who used to share this workload, has been promoted and is now doing extra managemt tasks and attending meetings for a lot of the day. This means he is doing about 50% less work.

So not only has the workload increased, but I have less help getting through it. I know managemt are aware of the issue, but nothing has been done for months and I keep thinking "it'll get better", but it hasn't. I am basically under the pump with tight deadlines and completely stressed out from the moment I sit at my desk, until the moment I go home. I am lucky if I catch a break and go outside in between.

I am thinking of first sending a email to my managers, explaining how I am under too much pressure and it's affecting my mental health. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I would word this? What to focus on in the email? I don't want it to sound like a untimatum, but I do want them to know I am serious and thinking of resigning.
