Getting discouraged - keep failing phone interviews...

Hi guys,

I'm a recent (well, sort of) college graduate and I can barely seem to make it through simple phone interviews.

So far, I have had 4 phone interviews, and 1 face-to-face interview. The face-to-face interview went pretty well, or so I thought, but they went with another candidate with more experience (the job required no experience, which I found more humorous than anything.......ok......whatever).

Recently, I spoke with a potential employer regarding a job I applied for, and well, just like every other time thus far - I was nervous, stuttered profusely, and left the call feeling mostly unsatisfied. During the interview he asked if I could recite any relevant projects tailored to the job - my mind went blank. Literally could not remember a single thing I did during school because I was constantly stressed out with coursework, so I had to just spit out some total BS which I'm pretty sure effectively soiled the interview. The job description said "0-2 years of experience", so that came as an unpleasant surprise.

I already have a minor speech impediment and seems to flare up whenever I'm under stress, which is apparently when I'm doing a phone interview. Strangely, I seem to perform better when interviewing face-to-face.

It seems like I keep butchering these interviews and I'm not sure but I think I'm starting to get depressed as well. I know it is ultimately a grind to land that job (especially that first job after college), but I'm not quite sure if it's me personally or if I'm just simply getting edged out by another candidate.

I am still working the same grunt job I had in high school, and we are extremely understaffed because the majority of our workers went back to college or just quit.

At this point, getting a full-time job feels like winning the lottery and I'm starting to get discouraged.

Does anyone have any tips on how to handle phone interviews better? How many interviews did you go through before you actually got the job? I have literally made a 6 page document of all interview questions....and I've been practicing daily. I've also been working on improving my Excel knowledge so my mind doesn't succumb to mashed potatoes. I ultimately want to land a Data Analyst position, btw.

Thanks...
