So I was a graphic designer. My major was graphic design and my minor was in business.
For the past 5 years I miraculously had a job in my field and did well until our company closed down.
There are almost no graphic design jobs here. They are super rare and the competition is insane when one pops up. So I had resigned myself to receptionist and administrative jobs. We can’t move for a few years because my husband is doing some extremely important training with his career here so I really need to find something here.
I thought it would be easy to get one of these jobs because all of my summer jobs during college were clerical and office related plus my business minor. I know how to do a lot of it except maybe creating reports. I also filled in for our receptionist sometimes at my graphics job when she was out.
But for some reason that’s not the case at all. I am rejected constantly. I don’t know what to do. It makes me so angry. These are basic jobs. Not fancy. Not complicated. I KNOW I could do them yet for some reason I’ve had one interview and that’s it. The rest I just get rejection after rejection email.
I’ve tried to be positive but it’s just turning into rage now. I saw one today that wanted someone who went to secretary school...is that even a thing? What?
I’ve modified my resume a lot but I don’t know what else to do other than deleting my design experience entirely and just pretend I was a secretary which is 100% a lie
I obviously will keep applying anything in my field that pops up but it literally could be 6months from now. Freelance isn’t a great option. People are very cheap here. Probably why my company died.
Why is getting a basic job that pays 25-30k a year impossible?!!!
