A job I interviewed for a month and a half ago (and didn't get), was re-posted. I know that I was beat out for the position by someone with more experience than me, as the manager said on the phone. However, that position had a FIRM start date (it's a 1-year position covering a maternity leave) and is located in an area that isn't great. The job was re-posted mere days before the start date. My gut tells me I should re-apply and give it another shot, but I've been hearing mixed advice from people about this and I'm not sure if I should reapply or not.
Pros:
I could get a second chance to interview (which would help me with my interview skills)
I could get the position
They don't hire me, but don't think negatively of me for reapplying
Cons:
They obviously think I'm stupid for reapplying, application is ignored
Some people are like "hell yeah, reapply, you never know!" but then some people make a good point and say that if they WANTED to hire me they a) would have hired me the first time, b) would have re-contacted me about the position. However, I'm just not too sure about those two points. It does truly sound like I was beat out by someone with more experience, which is more than fair, and if someone with more experience re-applies, they'd be a better candidate than me for sure... but this is the second time the job is being posted, they might NEED someone for this position and I might have a chance depending on what the candidate pool looks like this time around. I'm also hesitant to believe that they would go back to the initial applicant pool for candidates. This is a job for a municipality (library) and when they do this, there is usually an EXPLICIT note saying that resumes may be kept to fill vacant positions. There was no note about this, and another professional in the field did make a good point and state that after she interviews people and hires, she doesn't hang onto their application package and sometimes HOPES people will re-apply. So, who knows. Either way, for some reason I'm feeling really torn and anxious about this. I should probably just re-apply and be done with it... or should I?! Any insights?
There have also been sooo few jobs posted in my field lately in my area, that I think I'd be stupid to risk letting this potential opportunity get away. I'd probably regret not re-applying and somehow imagine "what could have been!"
