My Fiancée (Ally) works at a very terrible company, a division of a large public/media broadcasting company, or rather, her boss specifically being a core problem with the company being a terrible company with communication, authority bounds, and disciplinary action.
Ally is a very hard worker as well as being very honest and loyal. The problem with this is, her boss takes complete advantage of her. Her boss, I'll name her Kay for this, well Kay has been a very long term employee at this company. She is the head of the "department" for this specific division of the company. She is constantly unresponsive when she needs to be, so it falls on Ally to take the responsibilities. In addition to the unresponsiveness, she demands crazy things of the 3 employee department. A lot of which is yea, still doing her responsibilities because she has a "doctors" appointment. It has been called out before that she just lies about other obligations just to skip out on the work herself. One of the craziest things as of yet (just told to me moments ago and sparked me writing this) is that everyone must remain at their desk and available and must tell the others you're leaving work for the day. The problem here is, Ally takes this demand and does it, even while it makes her angry and just depresses her. The other and bigger problem is, this time is unpaid. The company currently has an overtime freeze. She is always afraid of being fired, or just being reprimanded for any reason. So she just does as she is told regardless. This meaning, she is sitting there, continuing to do work. Being unpaid.
Not going to lie, there is a crazy amount of sketch going on with her boss and her skipping her duties. I tell Ally to talk to HR or someone about it, but she says there is nobody to talk to because there is no HR at her work or she wouldn't know who to talk to at corporate because she never communicates with anyone there. She is just afraid of her losing her job overall. She fell into this position from a very low entry level/very part time position and her life has been pure stress ever since then when she was moved over to the department she is in now. She is becoming more depressed and I don't know what to do about it. Not just this boss being a problem, but there are so many inefficiencies with the company and the work process, it always causes her more work and then makes her stress out, have angry outbursts, or just straights up cries for 10-15 minutes. I go over the work flow and process with her, and really... none of it makes sense why they'd be doing any of it the way they are doing. When I tell her that she should bring up all her issues to improve her work life, she is just unmotivated to because of what I mentioned above. Nobody to actually complain to. She'd much prefer to just quit overall, but her income is fairly relied upon as well in the household.
There are so many more bits of info I could add in, but at the very least. I am wondering if I can somehow formulate my own complaint to the company and submit it anonymously on her behalf. I just want her to stop crying at her desk. I didn't know her job was THIS bad before we started working from home together. I've told her to outright quit and we'll figure something out on the income side of things, but since this was her first job official job nearly 5 years ago, she doesn't want to quit since she has horrible self-confidants issues and doesn't believe she is good enough to get another job anywhere else, let alone interview. Idk y'all. Anyone got any suggestions or need more info?
If anyone has suggestions for jobs though, and if i can somehow get her to apply. She is very good at using computer software and is a quick learner. She is currently making about $38k a year. She is happier to be working remotely and doing her duties as well. So I'd want to find her a job that could be remote, paying at least that, and is pretty much low stress.... She doesn't want decision making responsibilities pretty much. Is that doable?
