I need a little guidance in hiring a new apprentice at my work. (Body piercer)

Here's the story: I have been a professional piercer since February of 2013. I took on an apprentice about 3-4 years back, and it didn't turn out super awesome. I think part of this could have been due to my own inexperience, but also because I'd never had any sort of managerial position before. While his training went alright, and his work was O.K., I found that the whole process of seeking out an apprentice was not the easy part. (He found me on Facebook and I didn't really know him well before taking him on.) After some time, he left the company and I had to train the house manager to pierce in a pinch. (That was about 2 years ago.) That's been working out O.K. for the most part, except she doesn't want to pierce anymore. I'm now in a position where I need to train a new apprentice ASAP, but I hate relying on social media to help me find appropriate and reliable applicants. (I am still planning on using my business IG to reach out, of course, but then comes the tricky part...) I am anticipating a good number of applicants, as I already get a few every month even when I'm not actively seeking help.

I already have a short list of required criteria to work from, but how can I narrow down the paper applications to the ones that are best-suited for a piercing studio? What should I look out for?

Once I get an applicant in to interview, what should I focus my questions around? How should I gauge their answers?

Are there any red flags that would tell me "this person probably won't be a good fit here"?
